The Myth of Footprints
Error and plagiarism abound within the community of climate activist Councillors. Item 6 of the FoDDC motion to declare a Climate Emergency concerns individual 'Carbon Footprints':
"6. In order to reduce the very real risk of runaway global warming and the dramatic impacts on the global environment, society and us as individuals, it is imperative that we take the boldest steps to reduce our CO2 emissions from their current 6.5 tonnes per person per year to less than 2 tonnes as soon as possible; Ref 3"
Reference 3 is the European Commission 'Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research' which provides global per capita CO2 emissions data going back to 1970. The value it gives for the United Kingdom in 2018 is 5.6 tonnes and for 2017 it was 5.8 tonnes. 6.5 tonnes is nowhere to be found.
Reference 3 has nothing to say about reducing emissions to 2 tonnes.
Despite this, the highlighted phrase above appears in the Climate Emergencies of at least 9 other councils, often with the same reference, as seen in the references below.
If this were an isolated error in just one council's 'Climate Emergency' it could perhaps be forgiven but when the same misinformation is presented to many councils it is difficult to avoid the conclusion that the climate activist Councillors are showing contempt for their fellow Councillors by presenting them with pseudo-scientific statements that they know to be incorrect.
Councillors are required to comply with the The Seven Principles of Public Life. Any Councillor involved in the conspiracy should perhaps explain how their behaviour is accord with these principles.
