UN Agenda 2030
Seeking the source of the many 'Emergencies' and environment related motions put before almost all UK councils is a tortuous journey.
For those who seek an immediate explanation, Extinction Rebellion (Or Rising up!, or Just Stop Oil or Animal Rising or whatever they are called this week) appear as an obvious candidate and it would be easy to stop there and conclude that it is just a bunch of extremists trying to exert an influence that is out of proportion to their electoral standing.
This would be wrong; They are little more than the 'useful idiots' in the big picture. Looking at the structure of local government, there are a couple of representational organisations (who have no obvious connection with the 'useful idiots') that support the 'Emergencies'; The Local Government Association who, under the heading 'Who we are and what we do' state:
"The LGA is the national membership body for local authorities and we work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government."
Search their website for "Climate Emergency" and it is clear that they have a lot of promotional material. The LGA itself has declared a 'Climate Emergency" to deliver net zero carbon by 2050, although it isn't clear exactly what that means.
The National Association of Local Councils is similarly forthright; In an article "Climate Change" it proposes that Councils should declare a Climate Emergency.
Is this the source of the emergencies? Once again, it would be easy to stop here and say " well they're all in it" and leave it at that. This would also be wrong; They are the footsoldiers carrying out orders from above – it is necessary to identify the Generals who are issuing the orders. It might be assumed that the Generals are Central Government but the disparity between the policy of Central and Local Government mitigates against this. The orders have to be coming from elsewhere.
Enter the United Nations Agenda 2030. Few will have heard of this but it is a UN treaty that David Cameron enthusiastically signed the UK up to in 2015.
Within this agenda is the font of all 'Emergencies', both already declared and still to come. The reason why this is being implemented at local government level is that the UN recognises that most of these policies would be hard to implement at national level. A perfect example is the attempt to enforce a plant based diet. If Central Government attempted it, it would get national news coverage and there would be widespread debate. At local government level it can be put before a council and approved before the local media have even become aware of what's going on. When a majority of Councils have voted to adopt a plant based diet, then someone will say to central government: "Veganism must be the will of the people, look how many Local Councils approve of it".
Thus is democracy subverted.
The UN are quite clear about what they are doing. In: "The Critical Importance of SDG Localization" they state: "There is a need to strengthen systematic SDG localization and subnational climate action to utilize interlinkages and make integrated action more effective and efficient".
If you ask "why does the UN want to subvert democracy", then a pointer may be found in this quotation by Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.'s Framework Convention on Climate Change : "This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, changing the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years – since the industrial revolution. This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history."
The UN has no direct democratic accountability yet their ideas are are being implemented in Councils around the country. Whatever your political 'colour', this interference in local affairs should be a cause for deep concern. There seems little doubt that in the UN library Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' and George Orwell's '1984' are filed under 'Instruction manuals' rather than 'Political Satire'.Does anyone remember this by the late, great, Rory Gallagher?
